Veja Mate

The Latvian culture is among the oldest surviving Indo-European cultures, and its seasons, festivals, and numerous deities reflect the essential agriculture nature of their tribal life.  Veja Mate  is the Latvian goddess  of the wind and the  ruler of the weather. Her name means 'Mother of the Winds'.  It was She who nurtured the forests and birds. Together with Meza Mate, Mother of the Forest, which provides forest mother it for the forest and here particularly for the birds, those animals, which move in air, their element.  The Latvian's say that when She travels across  the land, it is said that  'she is blowing her flute' since the wind often makes the noise of flute tones.

Veja Mate is mentioned in song texts  as a protection goddess of sailors, who ask Her for a  good wind for sails.
