Abnoba done

Abnoba was the Celtic goddess of the Black Forest in Germany, childbirth, and a number of rivers   She gave Her name to many rivers named Avon, including the famous one in England that flows through the town where William Shakespeare was born.  Her name is related to 'wetness' or 'river'.

The Romans associated this goddess with Diana, and in the well-preserved Roman bath at Badenweiler there stands to this day an altar consecrated to Abnoba.  We may assume, also, that because Her altar is located at a therapeutic bath, it is probably safe to assume that She was similar in nature to other female deities associated with healing springs. Abnoba may have associations with fertility and women's rites.
